The Center for Dynamic Knowledge Is Hitting the Road

This photo was taken just before I pulled away from home, and it captures exactly how I felt: excited, energized, and ready for the road ahead.

The Journey Is Underway.

I am traveling through Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado, reconnecting with valued partners, catching up with colleagues, meeting some wonderful leaders, and filming new content along the way. I began this trip with places to go, people to see, and goals I hoped to accomplish. Each destination gives the journey purpose, but I am also making a point to appreciate everything that happens between one stop and the next.

That is often where the growth happens.

What the Road Teaches Us.

A road trip has a way of making that lesson very clear. You can plan the route, prepare carefully, and know where you want to end up, but you cannot predict every part of the experience. Sometimes the journey brings a beautiful view, a meaningful conversation, or an unexpected opportunity. Sometimes it brings a small rock through the front window, a broken water pump, or a change in plans.

It all becomes part of the story.

Each experience gives us something. We learn to adjust, solve problems, accept help, keep our sense of humor, and continue moving forward. We also learn to slow down long enough to notice what we might have missed if everything had gone exactly according to plan. Leadership works much the same way.

The Road Reveals the Leader.

Leaders need goals. We need a sense of direction and a clear understanding of where we are trying to go. Yet so much of our development takes place while we are working toward those goals.

We grow through the decisions we make when circumstances change. We learn through the conversations that challenge our thinking. We discover our strengths when something unexpected asks more of us than we anticipated. We become better leaders through the people we meet, the questions we ask, and the experiences we are willing to learn from along the way.

The destination matters, but the journey is where we are shaped.

Conversations Worth Traveling For.

That is one of the reasons I am so excited about this trip. I have the opportunity to spend time with leaders who are doing meaningful work and to hear what they are seeing in their organizations. I want to learn what questions they are asking, what challenges they are navigating, and what they are discovering about leadership, communication, workplace community, and change.

I am also filming new content throughout the trip. Some of it was planned before I left, and some of it is being inspired by the conversations, places, and unexpected moments I am experiencing along the way. Those are often the ideas worth sharing because they come from real life, real leadership, and the lessons unfolding right in front of us.

Of course, my two Golden Retrievers are part of the adventure too. They are making sure the trip includes plenty of breaks, outdoor exploration, and reminders to enjoy the moment.

To my partners, colleagues, clients, and leadership friends throughout Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado, I would love to see you while I am on the road. Let’s grab coffee, share a meal, talk about what you are working on, or simply spend some time catching up.

I still have destinations ahead of me and goals I am excited to reach. At the same time, I am treasuring the road that is taking me there, because every mile, every conversation, every challenge, and every surprise has the potential to become part of the growth.
